Savanuru, is a small town located in Haveri district of Karnataka, which became the topic of news when on July 20, 2010, Krishna Obalesh Bhangi, Manjunath Babu Bhangi and Nagaraj Khalayappa Bhangi gathered in front of the Municipality office and with the eyes of members of the media and the public trained on them, smeared human excreta on themselves as a protest against attempts to evict them from the land which they had resided at since before independence.
